Final

It’s all over but the crying for Two Step, who led virtually the entire season, only to see it slip away in the last few weeks and finish in third place overall.  The veteran of the league, Snoop, distanced the field with 6646 points while Hitler made a stunning comeback with Northern Illinois and Alabama in the final two games to post 6560.  Two Step was just shy with 6553, Granimal finished fourth with 6384 and Eagle posted 6352 to round out the top five.  Snoop showed his mere dominance over the rest of the field by following up his runner-up finish last year with a clutch win this season.  Hitler, Two Step, and Granimal all improved by 15, 20, and 28 places respectively.  Congratulations to Snoop and to our ever-important top four group who will be receiving an email shortly.

Thank you for everyone for participating and accepting the friendly jabs.  Check back periodically for more interesting information and get ready for ‘Invite a Friend’ month in anticipation of the next college fantasy football season.

Snoop Rolls, Two Step Draws Near

To his Snoop-assigned nickname of Second Place.  Here’s how they stand now:

Snoop 6445 (Houston, Oregon, Oklahoma St.)

Hitler 6257 (Oregon/Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, Alabama)

Two Step 6247 (Houston, South Carolina, Oregon, Oklahoma St./Stanford)

Granimal 6183 (Houston, Oregon, Oklahoma St.)

Eagle 6138 (Oregon, Kansas St., Alabama)

Bandwagon has a Mavericks jersey.

Stanley Sports Day

We’re through Stanley Sports Day and our top five stack up like this:

Snoop 6324 (Toledo, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Houston, Oregon, Oklahoma St.)

Hitler 6257 (Houston, Oregon/Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, Alabama)

Granimal 6144 (BYU, Houston, Oregon, Oklahoma St.)

Two Step 6142 (Toledo, Houston, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Oregon, Oklahoma St./Stanford)

Eagle 6090 (Houston, Oklahoma, Oregon, Kansas St., Alabama)

Look for Two Step to make a run at the top, but it will be nearly impossible to overcome Snoop since they both shared the same selection service for their picks.  Obviously, Snoop’s customer service rep shared a couple better picks with him.

Today’s interest:  Toledo — Snoop, Two Step, The Ringer.  Air Force — Rockin’ Randy.  Texas — Brownie.  California — Alpo.  Texas v. Cal will be a good time for Christmas gift returns.

Bandwagon — He was spotted wearing a St. Louis Cardinals singlet during wrestling practice.

Boxing Day

Snoop is still in first place by 67 points over Hitler.  Not much going on in today’s games other than Eagle needing 83 points out of Western Michigan to catch Two Step for fourth.

Our resident bandwagon entry, aka Raul, has declared his allegiance to the winner of the LSU/Alabama game.

Christmas Eve

Southern Miss didn’t do much to help our leaders, but Granimal did move past Two Step.  Their low output will surely hurt him in the coming weeks.  Standings are updated.

Bowl Standings

With Bowl Season now underway, I’ll be posting the updated standings periodically.  After Southern Miss destroys Nevada tomorrow night, look for our season-long leader Two-Step to slip to 4th place and Snoop, Hitler, and Granimal all are looking for big points out of them.  Can Snoop hold off a charging Hitler?  Looks like Hawaii’s alleged point shaving and lack of a bowl game could be Hitler’s downfall this time.

@SportsBarage

Yep, it’s twitter, so get after it….even if you’re a bandwagon fan that claims such an oddity as OU football and OSU wrestling.

Week 14

Washington, D.C. – Work and sightseeing are taking the place of fantasy football updates.  We do know this though.  Snoop leads the pack again, Hitler has moved up to second, Two Step slipped to third, Granimal made a big jump to fourth, and Eagle rounds out our top five.

Standings are not posted yet because I have to start collecting the top twelve scores from each team.  ETA is middle of next week when I’m back in a slower paced area of the states.

He’s Back

After a one week hiatus, Two Step is back in his more accustomed top spot in the standings.  And Snoop just kicked his dog into next week.  As it stands now, Two Step is at 5904, Snoop 5867, Hitler 5755, Eagle 5633, and The Ringer is chasing that magic fourth spot and has 5600 points heading into a shortened week of games.  Only 22 games are on this week’s slate that’s dotted with conference championships, Mountain West, Big East, and a few games from the Big 12 with 10 teams conference.  But then we’re still not finished…we still have the bowl games to consider.  Even though we use each team’s top 12 games, historically, it hasn’t affected those at that top…but it could happen.  So you’re saying there’s a chance…

Who’s Left This Week:  Two Step has both Bedlam squads, Oregon v. UCLA, and Houston v. Southern Miss.  Snoop has the Bedlam combo as well, Boise St. v. New Mexico, Oregon, Houston and Southern Miss (Southern Miss victory and Boise St. romp could make the difference).  Hitler has Boise St., Oregon, Wisconsin v. Michigan St. (Watch out for the revenge factor and bonus points), Houston and Southern Miss, and Northern Illinois v. Ohio.  Eagle has Oklahoma, Boise St., Oregon, Houston and Southern Miss, and Kansas St.  The Ringer is chasing that fourth spot with 7 of 8 teams playing, which include OU, Oregon, OSU, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Houston, and UCLA.

Big Dog:  Hitler had a perfect week good for 516 points.

Low Down:  Mr. Rogers with two teams on a bye week and UCLA pouring in a whopping -19 points to total 218.

YIC:  Still dominating with Two Step, Snoop, The Ringer, The Molester, and Rockin Randy in that order.

Dames Division:  Lucky (15), Masters (19), Alamo (25).  The Molester has been moved back up to just the YIC due to Rockin Randy tanking the last few weeks.

Top Five:  Houston 76.6, Oklahoma St. 71.6, LSU 68.8, Wisconsin 68.3, Oregon 68.1

Bottom Five:  Troy 22.7, UCLA 29.5, Fresno St. 29.6, UConn 30.4, East Carolina 31.2.  Yes, all of these teams were picked by at least one entrant.  If you have any of them, put yourself in time out for 15 minutes.

Wish You Had ‘Em:  Arkansas scores 55.1 points per game and cost $1,710,000 and Clemson scores 52.2 and cost $1,060,000.  Both would have been good additions and obviously Clemson would have been easier to fit into the salary cap.  But two others that came at even better value are Baylor, 59.6/$440,000, and Arkansas St., 50.4/$300,000.  The common thread is that no one pick any of these teams and they are all in the top 26 scoring teams.

Glad You Don’t:  Ohio St., 37.0/$1,480,000, Auburn, 35.5/$1,330,000, Miami, 35.1/$1,220,000, Mississippi St., 34.5/$1,210,000, Utah, 33.7/$1,190,000, Florida, 32.7/$1,330,000, Pittsburgh, 30.9/$1,150,000.  If you thought about picking any of them, put yourself in timeout for 10 minutes.

Q & A #3

If you missed Q & A #2, you’re not alone.  We all missed it because Granimal spilled Capri Sun all over his keyboard, so he just couldn’t participate.  But we have a willing participant this week in Brownie:

How does it make you feel to see Granimal, Raul, and Double Down so far ahead of you in the standings?

Meh, I don’t feel anything actually.  It’s not like any of them had a legitimate shot at winning anyway.  Especially with OU being a lock for 3 losses this year.

Do you think the Longhorns should drop to the FCS (1-AA) after continually fielding sub-par teams?  And would they really fare any better?

No, I don’t think they should drop.  I think they’d definitely do better though. Just wait until next year f—–s!!

Penn St. is the fourth most expensive team on your list.  Do you really know Jerry Sandusky personally or did you just meet him in the shower?

Never met the dude (in or out of the showers), but based on the allegations against
him…I’m a little big for his taste.  Raul looks like he could fit the bill though.

After being mired in the bottom third of the standings all season, are there any teams you regret picking?

I regret picking my entire squad actually.  Who’d have known so many teams could blow so hard this year.

Do you have a strategy for next year?

Winning maybe?  But definitely finishing higher than Double Down, Taul or that round mouth b–ch Granimal!

What is your golf handicap?

7. (*Obviously, Brownie misunderstood this question and thought it was asking for his average score per hole)

You and Raul play golf against each other.  Who wins and how much money exchanges hands?

I’m actually a scratch golfer.  Raul and I don’t wager anymore, because he’s flushing his life roll on new cars and fake t— so things are prolly a little tight for him now.  Plus, it’s better to take what’s left of his cash on the poker table or in craps.

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

I’d want Granimals job.  Trust fund baby sounds like a pretty legit deal to me.

Who’s the best poker player you know?

I’m clearly the best, Granimal will verify this.

Who’s the worst poker player you know?

Damn, tough one here.  I can’t pick just one so… I’ve beat on Granimal’s soul and wallet so bad that he won’t even play me anymore.  Raul has to buy a new piece of furniture after every game because he can’t control his roid rages after I beat him in a pot and Double Down has his rebuy button continually pressed.  Once he’s busted and incoherent from the alcohol, he will be looking to bet his lucky $2 bill just to stay in the action.

Who is your idol?

Myself OBV!  Other than a shi–y season on this pick thing, it’s pretty good to be me.

Week 1 Update

Although the first week of the 2011 college football season won’t be in the books until after the renegades battle Maryland later tonight, it’s close enough for us as Randy ‘Two Step’ Ramirez boot-scooted his way to the top of the leaderboard with an amazing 551 point week.  If only Oregon would have shown up at LSU, Two Step could have easily topped the 600 point plateau.  As it is, he had a 7-1 week to lead a surprisingly quiet Alamo and Alpo by 23 points.  Alamo also got stung by Oregon, but Alpo had a perfect 8-0 week with disappointing 34 points from BYU and a low output of 52 points out of Houston’s high octane offense.  Lucky Vanderslice stands two points out of second place, while Matt ‘Honorable Mention’ Rucker rounds out the top five.

Even though the season is barely started and runs through the BCS Championship game, Two Step seems confident with his selections.  “After a long night of country line dancing, I was tossing and turning and couldn’t come up with my picks.  Then he appeared to me right in my doorway and pointed the way….it was Billy Ray Cyrus himself that led me to my championship selections.  I mean, the greatest country and western singer ever came to me and helped me pick the winning teams.  I couldn’t be happier,” proclaimed Two Step.  Too bad it isn’t a one-week season.

Big Dog:  Obviously Two Step

WT?:  Mark Barringer…MWC just kicked you out of the alumi group

Bill Snyder:  With many teams following Snyder’s former formula for success, we saw seven teams score more than 90 points, with Cincinnati topping the list with 104.  Of course, the only entry that has Cincinnati is a Sooner fan that insists on talking smack through 3rd parties or via text messaging.  Use the ‘Comments’ button at the bottom of the articles.  Surely they taught that in school.

No Reason to Panic:  SMU -6, Tulsa -1, Troy 9 points…it’s still early and they just got beaten up by bigger dogs.

Disappointment:  Oregon’s offense not mustering many points at LSU

Disappointment II:  Les Miles winning yet another big game

York International Conference:  Missing this year is the Legend, as he bows out for the first time in the history of the league.  That still leaves Two Step, The Ringer, Snoop, Rockin, and the rookie Chesher, to battle it out for the YIC title.

Dames Division:  Three dames entered this year and so far, Alamo heads the group (2nd overall), followed by Lucky (4th overall), and then Masters (13th overall).  Good thing Cincinnati scored 104 to vault you all the way up to third spot in the division.

Comments/Texts Part II:  Thanks to Raul for sending out the 300th ‘Boomer’ text that I received Saturday morning.  I thought only chicks did that any more.

Pending

Week 2 stats are in progress from Kegler’s in Morgantown, WV.  Be patient, please, as I’m travelling.  I’ll get them done as soon as possible.  In case you didn’t notice, Cincinnati will not be the highest scoring team this week.  Bonus points if you know the name of the head coach of the team that beat them without looking it up on the internet.

P.S.  They have trouble getting the tv’s on football here also.  It’s known as the Alpo Syndrome.

Week 2 Update

Augusta, GA — The standings almost got postponed, but there’s no sense in punishing everyone even though Alamo had to pop off about them not being posted.  Sometimes that liquid courage gets the best of her and she just can’t keep her trap shut.

Two Step is still dancing on the rest of the field after a 440 point week, Lucky Vanderslice goes from 4th to 2nd, Alamo drops a spot to 3rd (hate to see that), while Renner and Rockin Randy Trotter round out the top 5.  ”There’s a lot of achy breaky hearts out there and it’s only week 2,” proclaimed our leader.  Even with OU on a bye week and Toledo barely losing at Ohio St., Two Step increased his lead to 63 points.  If anyone wants his autograph, he’ll be signing in between line dances at Graham’s this Saturday night.

Big Dog:  Two Step again with 440, while going 6-1

Low Ball:   Zmek went 3-2 with 3 teams on a bye week

Moving up:   Rockin hopped up 11 spots to 5th

The slide:   Alpo slipped from 2nd to 13th.  Enjoy it while it lasted…

Dames Division:  Lucky moved into 1st place while Alamo is a close 2nd.  Masters had a good week for a girl and is still in 3rd.

YIC:  Two Step, Rockin, The Ringer, Snoop, Chesher…in that order

You picked who???:  Raise your hand if you picked Cincinnati and bragged about it last week

Schmoopie Watch:  No surprise that Mr. Schmoopie is ahead of Masters.  It was only a matter of time.  Mrs. Schmoopie must be so proud.

Where are they now?:  Veteran Trophy Carter bowed out of this year’s contest to concentrate on getting his quilting degree.  Trophy could regularly be seen fighting for the cellar championship and will be missed weekly…but we look forward to seeing the next new quilting runner-up at this year’s Sister Ignatious of the Blind Faith competition.  Good luck Trophy and bring home that red ribbon.

Who?:  After holding off Thiel College 32-24 last week, the Marietta Pioneers had an off week…to get healthy maybe.  They travel to New Concord, OH to take on Muskingum University this Saturday.

Week 3 Update

Albeit a bit past the deadline, here’s the Week 3 Update.  Two Step is still in the lead, but his boots are a little looser after coming down to earth a bit.  Since starting out with 551 points, Two Step has turned in 440 and 385 point weeks but only saw his lead slip three to 46 points from 49 the previous week.  Temple and Toledo only scoring two and seven points respectively kept the leader in our sights, as did a few low-point victories.  OU had a big win for the majority of us, but only scored 54 points.  South Carolina squeaked another one out, this time being good for just 42 points in a home win over Navy, while Houston slipped past La. Tech on the road to post 50 points.  OU is a wash for the field and should still rack up plenty of points, but I’m not sold on South Carolina’s hype.  Spurrier’s offensive mindset still hasn’t taken hold and their best offensive player has been more dangerous behind the wheel of a car that under center thus far.  As long as Keenum is healthy, Two Step has a good lineup, but once again, it will more than likely come down to how a couple of the mid-majors play in conference as his two wildcard teams are Temple and Toledo.  Our new #2 is Mr. Rogers, who turned in one of three 500 point weeks and overtakes Lucky Mrs. Rogers by a spot.  “I let her have her two weeks of fame.  Anyone can draw teams out of a hat and get lucky, but her household reign is over.  Maybe she’ll win the Dames Division.”  Double Down keeps climbing up and makes his debut in the top 5 in 4th place, while Guthy Renner and Honorable Mention stand tied for 5th.

Big Dog: Congrats to Eagle Barringer for a perfect week and 532 points.  Kansas St. and Western Michigan?  Heads up, but K St. only beat Eastern Kentucky 10-7 in Week 1 and W. Mich. goes to Illinois (and eventually UConn, N. Ill., and Toledo).  But at least you had Week 3 in 2011!

For Shame:  Rookie Mistake Chesher went 4-4 and only good for 285 points.  I thought it would be hard to beat that whopping 291 last week, but BYU (-2 at home) and Arizona (-5 at home) proved me wrong.

Moving Up:  Eagle moved up from 25th to 16th.  See Big Dog and anticipate next week’s slide down.

Going down, down, down, she goes down…: A mainstay in our top 10 the last two season’s and a perennial contender for the Dames Division, Alamo took a tumble from 3rd down to 15th with a 306 point week.  Penn St and UConn look to be repeat disappointments week after week this year, but otherwise, the lineup looks solid.

YIC:  Two Step, Rockin, The Ringer, Snoop, Chesher.  One more sub-300 week and Chesher is getting kicked out of the conference

Dames Division:  Lucky, Alamo, Masters…like a broken record.  *Chesher has petitioned to join the Dames Division and has recruited Trophy out of the Quilting league to apply also.

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  7-1, 454 points, still ahead of Masters

Quote of the Week:  ‘I’m a huge Texas fan.’ — Longhorn Rothlein

Marietta Woes:  The Fighting Muskies of Muskingum routed Marietta 34-14.  Up next, the Poineers host John Carroll University and have been installed as 7 1/2 point favorites.

Holy Holocaust!

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?  No, and it ain’t over now!  But we do have our lone German representative leading the pack after a record-breaking week of 583 points.  Zac stole the show with a perfect 8-0 week…Southern Miss turned in his lowest total of 44 points in a road win at Virginia.  Boise St., Northern Illinois, and Alabama were all in the 60′s, Oregon and Hawaii scored in the 80′s, and Houston and Wisconsin both topped the 90 mark for our new leader.  Once in 10th place, he only outscored our previous leader by 157 points this week to take a surprising 27 point lead over Two Step.  Rockin RT had an impressive 450 point week to move into 3rd place while Double Down held onto the 4th spot for a second consecutive week.  Lucky Vanderslice slipped a couple spots to 5th, but along with Two Step is one of only two entrants to spend the first four weeks in the top five of the standings.

Big Dog:  We’ve already covered that, but kudos go Mickey 3 Chins and our other Z man, Steve Zmek for 538 and 506 points, respectively.  Five hundred point weeks are almost unheard of but we’ve already had 11 entrants top the mark this season.

Low Down:  Good hustle, Rookie Mistake.  The really bad news is that he’s only had one team with a bye so far.

Moving Up:  Again, Hitler is at the top after being in 10th place last week.

Going Down:  Alpo went from 11th to 21st.

YIC:  Two Step, Rockin, The Ringer, Snoop, Rookie…barely hung on by 19 points.

Dames Division:  Lucky is dominating, Masters moved to second, and Alamo slid way back.

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  Another good week moved him to 11th and knocking on the door to the top 10.  He doesn’t need to worry about Masters any more.

Quote of the Week:  ‘When did Cincinnati move out of Indiana?’ — Masters

Marietta:  They’re ready for basketball season.

Across the Sea Q & A

In our first installment of Q & A, we visited with Zac von Robinson after his record-breaking Week 4 performance.

When you saw the standings, what was your first thought?

Damn…everybody probably wishes they were me. And no I’m not letting any of them visit.

How have the people of Mackenbach reacted since your record-breaking week?

They drove me around town on a tractor and showered me with fest beer. They also stoically chanted Ramirez es Sheisse, Trotter es Sheisse, Looper es Sheisse…they went down the line except for some reason they said “fick dich Peden” when they got to him.

Are there any celebrations planned for you?

Mackenbachers are a simple people, we like our beer, our schnitzel, and our lesbian sex. It won’t really be a celebration, more like a typical Saturday night.

What is your biggest disappointment from week 4?

That I didn’t reach 600 points. So many of you have been sending me messages talking about how great I am, how you want to have my babies (that’s gross Mi Vanderslice), but I know I can reach 600

Who do you see as your biggest challenger in the coming weeks?

Churchhill or Double Down

What are the odds of you winning the league?

I’m the Jon Jones of this league. No odds because nobody will bet against me.

If you could see one person in the league fail, who would it be and why?
Peden, because he’s such a glorious pool playing bastard. Or Chesher, that’s right Chesher, make me proud. Ozment can suck it too, probably would be cheap anyway
Who is a better athlete, Tiger Woods or Lebron James?

I’d absolutely have to say TIGER WOODS if I was a complete and total idiot. But i’ll go with James.

If you do indeed win the league, what do you plan to do with your trophy?

Put it in my trunk and take it everywhere I go. It’ll also have a spot in the Augusteiner beer tent at Oktoberfest

Who is your favorite amateur billiards player?

Whoever is playing Granimal

Week 5

Standings are posted…update may be coming, depending on travel time this weekend.

Week 5 Update

San Antonio — So I’m a week behind on the upd…and that’s where the roadside service showed up.  Back to Edmond, so here goes with the Week 5 Update, hopefully followed by the Week 6 Update before too many games are played in Week 7.  Our most famous German, von Robinson leads the pack for a second week in a row while Guthy Renner moved all the way up to second after holding down the eighth spot last week.  The biggest surprise saw Eagle Barringer vault into third with another amazing perfect week after K St upset Baylor and W. Michigan won at UConn.  Just two weeks after calling out suspect picks, they have him in contention for the top spot.  Rockin Randy slipped a spot to fourth and Two Step fell to fifth and is in jeopardy of exiting the top 5 for the first time this season.

Big Dog:  Eagle with an 8-0 week and 495 points.  Although Hitler had the second highest output, the honorable mention Big Dog award goes to Mr. Chesher who climbed out of the cellar with a 446 point outing.

Down Low:  Alamo with only four teams active for 167 points.  I haven’t heard any complaints about the updates not being posted, oh, since about week 2 when someone was still in 3rd place.

Moving on Up:  Eagle with the biggest move up to 3rd from 11th.  Also, Guthy moved up six spots to 2nd and Snoop is making some noise by going from 18th to 11th.

Wrong Way:  Teams Vanderslice both took nosedives as Lucky dropped to 15th and Mr. Rogers dipped to 16th.

YIC:  Rockin, Two-Step, Snoop, The Ringer, Chester the Molester

Dames Division:  Lucky (15th), Masters (18th), Alamo (27th).  If the cream rises to the top, I guess girls in a boy’s league sink in due time.

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  Four spots above Masters and not looking back.

Hot Foot!

Week 6 Update

Edmond — Another week, another record-setting number as Two Step tangoed back to the lead with a perfect week and an astonishing 668 points.  His lowest scoring team was Oregon with 63 points, Stanford had 70, then he had three teams in the 80′s and another three in the 90′s.  When asked about his ascent back to the top, Two Step boasted, “I thought it was odd that I only had about 10-12 people begging me to send them my picks before the season started.  I’ve looked into starting a handicapping service and will probably grace everyone with my skills next season.”  Hitler had a perfect 6-0 week but slipped to 2nd and trails by only 34 points.  Eagle was also perfect at 8-0 and sits 20 points back of Hitler as Guthy dropped a couple spots into a tie for 4th with Snoop, who makes his first appearance in the top 5.  Snoop had a 7-0 week good for 599 points and could easily be alone in 3rd place if Tulsa had played.  Added Snoop, “It was only a matter of time.  My teams probably won’t lose again this season.”

BAM!  Two Step with 668 points.

Lowest of the high scorers:  Shutler went 4-1 with 310 points for the low score of the week honor.  Normally, 310 with only five teams would be a good showing, but when six entries score over 500 and another 12 tally 400-plus, it is only good enough to be mentioned on the web site.

East Side:  Snoop made his move up seven places.

Opposite:  Shutler, down 10 spots.

YIC:  Two Step, Snoop, Rockin, The Ringer, Molester

Dames Division:  Lucky (17), Masters (22), Alamo (26).  Yawn…

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  9th place.  He and Masters keep getting further and further apart.

You Need These Teams:  Average Scoring Per Game — Wisconsin 79.2, Oklahoma St 75.8, Oklahoma 74.6, Houston 72.2, Georgia Tech 70.8

Comparison:  Hitler and Eagle could be on a collision course as they each have Alabama, Oregon, Houston, Boise St., and Southern Miss.  Hitler has Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, and Hawaii while Eagle counters with Oklahoma, Kansas St., and Western Michigan.  WMU at NIU can help provide a little separation this week.  As a side note, over the last three weeks, Hitler’s teams are 20-1 and Eagle’s teams are 22-1.

A Look Back:  Let’s take a quick look back at the text message conversation a certain entrant had with me about being the only team to pick the Bearcats.  As I was preparing meals for the homeless, I became bombarded with text messages about this one team.  Here’s a look:

Bearcats Fan: I know I made “the” comeback this week

Super Genius League Commissioner: Don’t hold your breath

BF: I don’t need to.  Go Bearcats!!!!

SGLC: Who’d they play?

BF:  Doesn’t matter shut out (sic) biotch!

SGLC: Really?  What was the score?

BF:  27-0 ass

SGLC:  Ur (sic) off by a week

Silence….more silence from the lack of text message notifications coming back to SGLC

Sometimes, it’s just too easy….

Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

That Girl

A Look Back (continued):

SGLC:  What’s it like anyway?

BF:  Done.

That girl sure has a lot of quit in her.

Week 7 Update

Ho hum…not much doing other than Snoop locking down 4th place by himself and Longhorn climbing into the top 5 for the first time this year.  Two Step, Hitler, and Eagle still hold down the top 3 spots…and here we go again since I got logged out and lost the entire update after I was already finished with it.  So to keep Two Step from whining any more about not getting updates and being perilously close to not being included on the delinquent entry fee email, I’ll try to remember as much as I can.  I don’t get to teach dance lessons all day and pick out shirt patterns, so the updates come as I can get to them.

Cudos goes to Longhorn and JS for sharing Big Dog honors with 461.  Zmek is on the opposite end with 298.

Longhorn also made the biggest jump by moving from 12th to 5th as Alpo slipped five spots to 19th.

YIC:  Two Step, Snoop, The Ringer, Rockin, Molester (Nice move being last overall and in the YIC)

Dames:  Lucky, Masters, Alamo, Molester (Might as well since they’re all out-scoring you also)

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  13th with 2855.  That’s 7 places and 144 points better than Masters.

Best Move of the Week:  Not sending misinformed texts about your teams.  Also makes for a boring update.

Week…Week…Week…I’m Drawing a Blank

I always get pretty confused when I get all the way up to the number seven, I think.  I’m not sure what comes after seven though.  Luckily, Snoop the Super Sleuth alerted me to the fact that I hadn’t done the update for whatever the number is after seven.  I know I went to the 7th grade and I remember the 9th, but it’s hazy in between there.  And I know there’s a number in there on the craps table and it pays 7:6 for a place bet, but I have a hard time calling it out.  Wait, there it is on my text messages.  Thank you so much Captain Obvious for the ‘you know you haven’t done the week 8 update yet?’ text.  Can you come over and lay my clothes out for me tomorrow and draw me a map to work for Monday?  Maybe even leave me a note to put milk in my cereal?  I don’t know how I’ve made it this far without that Einstein-like guidance.

Top five is exactly the same as last week with the whiner on top, Hitler, Eagle, Kojak, and Longhorn rounding it out.

Let’s hear it for Alpo for his 575 point week.  Booooo Rockin for only scoring 220.

Moving up:  Alpo and Granimal both moved up seven spots, to 12th and 6th respectively.  Also noteable was Masters jumping six spots to 14th.

Down:  Rocking down to 18th from 7th.  Ouch.

Mr. Schmoopie:  Had to have a big week to keep his distance over Masters and knocking on the door to the top five.

YIC:  Whiner, Kojak, The Ringer, Rockin, Molester

Dames:  Masters, Lucky, Molester (finally has more points than one of the broads), Alamo

Top Team:  TCU with 108.  Granimal has em.  So does Brownie, Raul, Doc, Mr. Rogers, and M3C.

Low Team:  New Mexico with -24, but no one is dumb enough to have them.  Tennessee and Utah also had -1.  Boston College had -2.  So did Zmek.

Top Five Per Game:  Houston 73.6, Oklahoma St. 73.6, Stanford 73.4, Wisconsin 72.7, Oklahoma 70.1.

Week 9 Update

Thank you to the Super Sleuth for calling and reminding me that the number nine comes after that other one.  We have our biggest shuffle in the top five but Two Step remains atop the list by easily outdistancing 2nd place Snoop.  Eagle lost some ground but holds onto the 3rd spot while Hitler had three teams on a bye week and slipped to 4th.  He had a chance to make a dent in the lead with his Northern Illinois pick playing Toledo (Two Step pick) last night, and although they won, it was 63-60 so Toledo will score plenty of points.  If Temple (Two Step) can pull one out tonight against Ohio, we may as well crown Two Step as this year’s champion.  *Go Ohio!  And this week’s fifth spot goes to Guthy, who is back in the top five for the first time since Week 6.

Big Dog:  Guthy went 7-1, good for 561 points.

Low Man:  Doc went 2-4 and tallied 122 points.

Moving Up:  It’s getting harder to move up more than a few places, but Lucky had the biggest jump this week in going from 19th to 14th.

Going Down:  Honorable Mention dipped six spots to 17th.

YIC:  Two Step, Snoop, The Ringer, Rockin, Trophy, Molester

Dames:  Masters, Lucky, Molester, Alamo

Mr. Schmoopie:  Stands in 8th, just four places in front of Masters

The top team was OU with 108.  Raise your hand if you don’t have them.  That’s you, Brownie, Doc, Granimal, Hitler, Alamo, and Honorable Mention.

The low team was SMU with -8 points (New Mexico had -19 but again, no one has them).  Congratulations to Big Money, Doc, Shutler, and Rockin Randy for that pick.  And a very special congrats to Doc for not having the top team, but selecting the low team this week.

Top 5 per game:  Houston 75.8, Stanford 74.9, Oklahoma 74.4, Oklahoma St. 74.4, LSU 69.9.

8:  The place of the entrant that failed to participate in the Q & A session.

1:  The number of entrants that have LSU (Longhorn; see Top 5 per game) and Cincinnati (Masters).

61:  Avg. points per game scored by Cincinnati and TCU.

0:  Number of complaints…and compliments received from Two Step after being caught up with all the updates.

Week 10 Update

Snoop Draws Near

Two Step still holds the top spot, but Snoop has drawn to within 54 points after a 7-1 week and a week-best 520 points.  Snoop has made up an amazing 122 points in the past three weeks as his teams have gone 20-2 over that same span.  Hitler is still in third after a 6-2 week with Alabama and Hawaii both losing at home while Eagle and The Ringer both move up to 4th and 5th, respectively.

Match-Up:  Two Step and Snoop both have OU, OSU, Oregon, Houston, and Toledo.  The difference is Two Step’s trio of Stanford (73.4), South Carolina (45.1), and Temple (44.6)vs. Snoop’s Boise St. (67.3), Southern Miss (55.8), and Tulsa (41.6).  Oregon at Stanford looms larger for our top two as an upset could produce a new leader for the first time since week 5.

Big Dog:  Snoop (See above).

Low Down:  Shutler, 3-4, 224 points.

Changes:  Double Down moved up from 17th to 12th while Masters dropped four spots to 17th.

YIC:  Two Step, Snoop, The Ringer, Rockin Randy, Molester

Dames:  Masters, Merchant, Molester, Alamo

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  Separated himself from Masters by climbing up to 8th.

A NEW LEADER

is almost upon us.  Stop doing the Snoopy dance and save it for next week when Two Step officially relinqueshes the top spot.  A 546 point week was good enough for a 50 point gain on our current leader (AKA Second Place) as the lead has dwindled to just four points.  “I knew his ballerina shoes weren’t enough to hold me.  The cream always rises to the top and in this case, I’m the cream…wait, don’t print that.  That didn’t come out the way I meant.”  So Cream or Prince, or whatever Snoop is calling himself has put himself in position to grab the top spot as the regular season winds down.  The difference this week was Oregon knocking off Stanford and scoring bonus points.  While both Two Step and Snoop have Oregon, Two Step also has Stanford.  It could very well come down to Two Step having South Carolina (v. Clemson) and Stanford (v. Notre Dame) with chances for bonus points in beating top 25 teams as Snoop could be out of bonus point chances until the bowl games as he has both Tulsa and Houston (at Tulsa Nov. 26).  Each entry has OU, OSU, and Oregon, so those will all offset.  Our third and fourth spots are still held by Hitler and The Ringer, but the fifth position is now graced by none other than Granimal, who makes his Top 5 debut.  “I’d just like to thank Mrs. Schmoopie for all she’s done.  I’m…I’m…I can’t stop crying.  Without her picking my teams, there’s no way I could have bested my 32nd place finish from last season.”

Big Dog:  Granimal with 582 points in a 7-1 week with a Boise loss.  Luckily, he counters with TCU.

Low Down:  Shutler with 251.  I need to check and see if he only picked six teams.

Switcheroo:  Honorable Mention swapped spots with Alpo by moving up to 11th from 16th to form this week’s biggest jump and drop.

YIC:  Two Step, Snoop, The Ringer, Rockin Randy, The Molester

Dames:  Lucky, Masters, The Molester, Alamo

Mr. Schmoopie Watch:  It’s all over…he’s 5th and Masters is 18th.

What’s in a Name:  Lucky leads her old man by only 216 points.

Top Team:  Houston and Oregon with 97.  A bunch of us have both of them.

Bottom Team:  Texas Tech with -5.  Nothing but outstanding play since the Norman miracle.  Poor Brownie, Alpo, and Doc.

Glad you have them:  Houston 78.9, OSU 76.4, OU 72.6, Oregon 70.8, Wisconsin 68.8

Wish you didn’t:  Boston College 17.9 (Zmek), Troy 19.7 (Big Money, Cowboy, Shutler, MC3, Zmek–I see a pattern), Fresno St. 29.0 (Brownie, Tin Cup), East Carolina 29.0 (Cowboy–sad development from our reigning champ), Arizona 30.4 (Guthy, Alpo, Molester–thanks to all of you for the OU connection support; you don’t have to pick them next season)

And Now For The Whining

“I knew it was too good to be true,” stated a dejected Two Step.  In between sobs, he continued, “He’s just too good for me.  I try everything I can, but I still can’t beat him.  Even with my picking service and looking over his shoulder during selection week, I’ll never be able to hold him off.”  (As a sidenote, this article is late due to Two Step being unavailable during the week due to uncontrollable crying fits over losing the lead)

As our new leader, Snoop, basked in his newfound glory, he declared, “I taught him everything I know.  He should be ecstatic to be so close to me in the standing.  I don’t call him 2nd place for nothing.”  Snoop bested Two Step 397-392 this week to take a commanding one point lead in the standings.  His trio of Boise St., Tulsa, and Southern Miss outscored Two Step’s Stanford, South Carolina, and Temple 173-168 to provide the difference…for now.  As we’ve seen, upsets have become the norm, so there’s no predicting the outcome of this league.  But, Snoop and Two Step do seem safe at the top with a 222 point lead over Hitler for third place, while The Ringer and Granimal continue to occupy the fourth and fifth spots.

Wow:  The Molester scored a whopping 502 points to easily win the Big Dog of the Week award as no one else even had 400 points.

Doh:  Big Money only tallied 222 points.

Moving:  Not many changes this late in the season, but The Molester did move up to 19th place.  Pretty impressive move after being mired in last place just five weeks ago but now hovering closer to the middle of the pack.

YIC:  Our York contingency still continues to dominate as Snoop is in 1st, Two Step 2nd, The Ringer 4th, The Molester 19th, and Rockin Randy 21st overall.

Dames:  Lucky, Masters, Molester, Alamo.

You already know:  Granimal is only 533 points ahead of Masters.

Up next:  Stand by for another version of our Q & A.
